About the role

Vital Energi are currently recruiting for the position of Shift Team Leader for the new build Energy from Waste facility located on the former Drakelow C coal fired power station near Burton on Trent. The facility generates electricity using gasification technology with Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) as the primary fuel. Vital Energi are the owners, EPC, operators, and maintainers of the facility.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Shift Plant Operators, Operations & Maintenance Assistants and Maintenance teams on site, you’ll plan, implement, and monitor work and processes through good practice to maximise efficiency and ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Develop effective O&M procedures, operating instructions, and RAMS for the facility.
  • Implement the Safe System of Work, specifically enacting the role of Senior Authorised Person under the company Safety Rules. Being responsible for the assessment of Work Orders, RAMS and the creation, issue, transfer clear and cancellation of Permits including the instruction and implementation of control measures such as mechanical and electrical isolations and Atmosphere testing.
  • Conduct and drive daily process meetings and team briefs, and coach and mentor new and existing staff in the operation of an Energy from Waste facility, Safe systems of Work and procedures.
  • Work with the Maintenance Department, you’ll coordinate, implement, and carry out maintenance activities to ensure plant availability is maximised.
  • Build and maintain relationships with colleagues to ensure effective communication across the site and take a professional and disciplined approach to management of the Shift Team and manage individual and team performance. Setting individual targets and carrying out performance reviews.
  • Take a lead role in identifying and taking pro-active measures to develop improvements to plant performance, availability, and reliability, and take a lead role in managing site incidents and emergencies and reporting of incidents in a timely manner
  • Proactively search for site defects, raising awareness, reporting and seeking rectification and carry out plant inspections, adjustments, readings and operational procedures and Other duties as directed by the Plant Manager / Operations Manager.
  • Plan and manage plant outages and major overhauls and manage the planning of shift rotas and cover required.
  • This role requires a degree of flexibility to carry out other duties identified from time to time, ensuring site objectives are achieved, especially during construction and commissioning phases requiring work outside of normal duties and hours
