“Using cleaner technology to heat our civic buildings is helping to shield public sector organisations from costly fossil fuels, especially at a time of high global prices. This funding will bring significant savings for taxpayers of well over half a billion pounds each year by making public buildings cheaper to run, heat and cool, whilst supporting economic growth and jobs across the country.”
The Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) exists to financially support making existing heat networks more efficient. This applies to both communal and district heating projects. It’s also part of the Government’s HNTP and is available to both public and private organisations in England and Wales, targeting heat networks that are inefficient and in need of upgrading.
Part of Heat and Energy Efficiency Scotland, the Heat Network Support Unit (HNSU) assists public sector organisations in Scotland who are at the pre-capital stages of heat network projects, such as undertaking feasibility studies or creating outline business cases. It specifically focuses on new heat network projects which utilise low or zero direct carbon emissions, however they may consider supporting the expansion of existing heat networks. Transitioning existing heat networks to low or zero carbon technologies is excluded. Communal heating systems are also excluded.
This is a central market place of Funding Providers, all of whom have expressed an interest in funding heat networks and demonstrated that they have access to funds and the associated services to execute fund raising, BHIVE provides an efficient route for Public Sector Bodies to access funding and funding-related services for their heat network projects.
