Barking Riverside is one of the largest Brownfield regeneration sites in Europe and is creating a vibrant community made up of 10,800 variously sized homes, 65,000m² of commercial space and the associated infrastructure such as a brand-new train station.
Our involvement with the development saw us create the temporary energy centre which would serve the initial phases of the development. The containerised solution took 12 weeks to prefabricate and contains 4 x 1MW of condensing boilers and has been designed to incorporate a further 1MW of boilers to meet the demand of the development as it grows. The temporary solution provides reliable heat and hot water to the first 1,263 homes.
We also designed the district heating network which distributes the heat and hot water around the development. We have connected apartment blocks to the temporary energy centre and the heat network will grow to be 5.2km long.
