Salford Royal’s ageing energy infrastructure was facing many challenges, including a significant maintenance backlog, but due to the age and low efficiency of the existing plant and equipment, there was an exciting opportunity to lower energy costs and carbon emissions.
The project was procured through the Carbon & Energy Fund and saw the energy centre receive a complete refresh, removing the existing aging plant and replacing it with a modern solution including a 2.5MWe combined heat and power (CHP) engine and steam boilers. We also installed a series of energy reduction measures, such as LED lighting and optimisation of the building management system.
As part of the contract we provided the client with a comprehensive energy performance contract which guaranteed carbon and financial savings for the duration of the 15-year contract.
