We specialise in large-scale air source heat pump solutions in the UK, from design to delivery, for commercial & industrial energy systems. Air source heat pumps (ASHP) are probably the most widely used type of heat pump in the UK at present.
An air source heat pump extracts heat from the air outside and transfers it to a refrigerant, which is then compressed to increase its temperature and finally transfers this heat into a water circuit. Also referred to as air-to-water heat pumps, these can provide heat up to 80°C (and even higher). This water can then be used for space heating or delivering hot water.
Air source heat pumps offer the most versatility, ranging from those suitable for individual homes right through to larger, roof-mounted multi-MW units, which can meet the needs of large-scale buildings and district heating networks. Some of the units we've installed, such as at Northwick Park Hospital, can weigh tens of tons. So it is essential to take structural engineering into account when planning your project, which we can help with.
At Vital, we specialise in industrial and commercial air source heat pumps. Installing heat pumps of this size requires structural engineering, electrical installation and plumbing, as well as ongoing operation management and maintenance. We are highly experienced in large scale projects, so can help at all stages.
Air source heat pumps generally cost less than other types, and are often the easiest to install. That's why they are frequently used in domestic or smaller premises, or on lower budget projects. They do however tend to have lower efficiency levels and are more affected by fluctuations in the external air temperature, but we can discuss this with you in more detail.
